SCOIL IOSAIF, FAIRVIEW 3 – 8
O’CONNELL SCHOOL 2 – 2
The Joey’s Junior Footballers got their football season off to the best possible start with a comprehensive and stylish victory over arch rivals O.C.S. in a windswept Fairview Park.
Joey’s won the toss and elected to play with the aid of a very strong wind in the first half but it was O.C.S. who drew first blood with a goal inside the first minute. However, Joey’s didn’t panic and rattled off a series of points through Cian O’Brien, Luke Foley,Dean Meehan, Eoin McNeill, Jordan Doyle, Patrick Ryan and Anthony Hughes.Joey’s began to pull well away and notch up the scores and with Josh Lewis, Gary Byrne, Anthony Gray and Cian Macken in sparkling form at the back, O.C.S. found it very difficult to break through. A cracking goal by the excellent Daniel McCabe just after the re-start put the game well out of the reach of a gallant but outclassed O’Connell’s.
Judo Is Back!
The Joey’s Judo Club begins its fifteenth year next week. Classes will be every Monday after school for beginners and every Tuesday and Friday evening for the oldtimeres (14+). To get the ball rolling again two of the lads who began in Joey’s fifteen years ago and who are now black belts came back to help out with a Judo demonstration. See you all on monday!

WOW and COW!
To mark our first ever COW or BOW day we had some day in Joey’s!
It started with all the cyclists gathering in The Circle to cycle to school. Unusually, however, the cyclists were led BY A COW (the cow bore a resemblance to Fanno!) – and the cow was cycling!!
Then it was into the school for breakfast – healthy smoothies, toast and some not-so-healthy saussies and black puddings.
Finally, there followed some safety training in the yard and then a present of a cycling helmet and other goodies to each boy who took part!
From now on, by the way, anybody cycling to school must wear a helmet – and that includes staff.
