Scoil Eoin, Cill Barróg              3 – 1

Joey’s hurlers got their season off to the best possible start with a comprehensive and well-deserved win over old rivals Scoil Eoin in a damp and dreary Páirc Barróg. The day may have been dark and gloomy but the standard of Joey’s hurling lit up the Spring afternoon as the Fairview boys tore into the opposition right from the start and raced into an early lead which they were never in danger of losing. Manager McDonald introduced eight substitutes at the interval to give every player ‘match time’ to prepare for the stiffer tests ahead. Next fixture: home vs St. David’s, Thursday March 1st.

If you get me on the plate, you might put golden syrup  or cream on me and roll me up and eat me!

Or you could put me in the micowave and eat me up later!

A deck of cards with no ace,

A shoe without lace.

I’m like a……..

bank with no money,

A joke that isn’t funny,

A day that isn’t sunny

A carrot with no bunny

Dear Parents,

In January the Minister of Education admitted he had made a mistake and that he had messed up in relation to the budget cuts for DEIS schools. He promised a review and a new plan “within four weeks”. That was five weeks ago and schools are no wiser now than they were then. If fact the word from Government politicians ‘off the record’ is that there may be a few local concessions to a number of the worst affected schools but that there will be no u-turn.

That is not satisfactory so, unless there is a positive announcement in the next few days, the protest scheduled for Thursday of next week (23rd February) will go ahead.

Next week’s protest is outside the Dáil and for it to make any difference we need to have at least as big a crowd as we had at last month’s protest. On Monday next I’ll be sending home a letter asking who is able to join us on the Thursday; I’ll need definite numbers as we’ll be ordering buses to take the Joey’s people to the Dáil. Please check the schoolbags on Monday and if at all possible sign up to support your school and all the other local schools.

The next production of the St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s Musical Society will be the “Wizard of Oz”. Auditions began today and all the boys – and girls – are looking forward to June already!

The Homework Club scheduled for Wednesday won’t take place ….as the boys won’t have any homework!
